Neck Pain Treatment

Neck pain treatment starts with performing an appropriate history and physical examination. The history should aim to find the particular movements and positions that make the neck pain better or worse.  After a symptom pattern has been established, the examination will aim to reproduce the positions and movements that had an effect on symptoms from the patient’s history. neck pain treatmentMost patients will benefit from starting a home exercise plan with the cervical retraction exercise. In-office treatment will include cervical/thoracic mobilization/manipulation along with progression of home exercises. Neck x-rays/MRIs may be recommended if there has been a recent trauma or other complicating factors, but often x-rays/MRIs are not necessary. Patients can expect to see improvement from chiropractic care within 3-5 visits. If a patient is not improving with care, a referral can be provided to the recommended provider for further treatment or evaluation. Neck pain treatment can be very successful if the appropriate physical examination and history has been performed prior. We always recommend making an appointment for any new onset spinal or extremity pain as well as for re-aggravations of previous symptoms to properly diagnose the underlying cause and to determine the most appropriate treatment.
